The Foundation for the Performing Arts Center has awarded $27,500 in grants to 7 local arts groups for the 2018-19 season.
This is the third year of grant-giving through the Clifton Swanson PAC Community Access Fund. With next season included, the Swanson Fund will have given $77,500 in three years to San Luis Obispo County arts groups.
“Our mission is to help our region’s arts groups return to the PAC each year, regardless of the economic landscape,” said Leann Standish, Executive Director. “That is the PAC’s purpose —to share in and celebrate this community’s enormous passion for the arts.”
This year’s recipients include: Civic Ballet of San Luis Obispo, Festival Mozaic, OperaSLO, Orchestra Novo, San Luis Obispo Master Chorale, San Luis Obispo Symphony, and San Luis Obispo Youth Symphony. Grant awards will benefit nearly 1,500 individual artists from our community who will perform on stage at the PAC during the 2018-19 season.
The Swanson Fund provides unique funding for technical and performance costs associated with theatrical productions. This can include lighting, rigging, sound design, and ranges anywhere from a few thousand to ten thousand dollars total. With limited funds available to residential companies, Swanson Fund grants have become a very important resource.
“We are honored to receive a Swanson Fund grant. Playing on stage at the Performing Arts Center can be a transformative experience for our young musicians,” said Abraham Perez of the SLO Youth Symphony. “It is invaluable to be in a hall with world class acoustics.”
Support for the Swanson Fund is thanks to the generosity of the Foundation’s members—notably all who made matched gifts through the Lewis Financial Challenge Grant.
