cal poly artsIn June, Cal Poly Arts announced its extraordinary new 2018-19 season, featuring 38 shows that celebrate 33 years of presenting high-quality professional arts and entertainment at the Performing Arts Center.

The subscription campaign runs through July 29, with single tickets going on sale to the public at 10 a.m., Monday, July 30. The best seats will be available online at www.calpolyarts.org or by phone: 805-756-4849.

Offering a wide array of unique speakers and artists from all of the performing arts genres, season highlights include an “An Evening of Classic Lily Tomlin;” brilliant new Broadway tours of “Something Rotten!” and “Finding Neverland,” with return engagements of “Monty Python’s  Spamalot!” and “Kinky Boots” (virtually sold out on subscription last year); magic and illusions with Vitaly; three speakers from the celebrated “National Geographic Live!” series; comedy from Tom Papa, the “Whose Live?” improv gang and Charles Phoenix’s “Retro Holiday Jubilee” slide show, as well as headliner concerts by Boz Scaggs, Herb Alpert, Tommy Emmanuel and special guest Jerry Douglas, Jazz at Lincoln Center with Wynton Marsalis, Amos Lee, a solo evening with Jon Batiste, and LeAnn Rimes performing her holiday tour.

cal poly artsAnother showcase event will be “We Shall Overcome” – a moving, musical multimedia tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr. filled with brilliant content and stirring music that sweeps a wide range of genres.

Classical music is well represented when master violinist Joshua Bell returns with pianist Sam Haywood.

World music and dance span the globe: Ireland’s Celtic Nights, Zulu favorites Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Havana Cuba All-Stars, and Ballet Folklórico de México.

More than 50 dancers perform Russian National Ballet Theatre’s Sleeping Beauty, LA-based Jacob Jonas The Company and the performance movement troupe Pilobolus round out the dance offerings, while modern circus arts and acrobatics are explored by Cirque Mechanics.

With almost 40 shows slated, there is something for everyone in our new season,” claims Cal Poly Arts director Steve Lerian. “With artists and events of this magnitude, we’ve seen brisk subscription sales this summer. Single ticket buyers will want to be ready to place orders when all shows open up for individual sales because we expect to sell more than 3000 tickets in the first week.”

Discount subscriptions continue to be offered throughout the season, with savings of up to 15 percent, advance priority seating and many subscriber benefits.
