All dog lovers are welcome to join owners of golden retrievers for a fun day at Laguna Lake Park on Sunday, July 7, 2013 from noon to 4 pm for the 6th Annual Goldens in the Park. This wonderful event – organized by local realtor Lenny Jones of Arroyo Grande and the group San Luis Obispo County Golden Retrievers – is held each year to raise funds for Woods Humane Society and Animal Shelter Adoption Partners of San Luis Obispo County.

Last year’s Goldens in the Park was held at Laguna Lake Park after several years at the smaller Santa Rosa Park in San Luis Obispo. “We found a nice big grassy area at Laguna Lake that was a very comfortable place to hold our event,” says Jones. “There’s plenty of free parking at Laguna Lake, it’s bigger, so we’re pleased to hold it there again this year.”
The 6th Annual Goldens in the Park is not just for owners of golden retrievers. All breeds of dogs and their families are welcome. Adds Jones: “All dogs have a ‘golden’ heart and they’re all welcome at our event.”
Since its inception, the SLO County Golden Retrievers group has raised nearly $13,000 for the Woods and ASAP. The Golden group meets monthly and has rescued over 25 golden retrievers – finding them new, loving homes. Their annual Goldens in the Park welcomes everyone who loves goldens and all dogs to a family and dog-friendly event.
Several fun events that will take place at the 6th Annual Goldens in the Park include:
• most senior golden
• best fetch
• most balls in mouth
• best trick
• demonstrations, pet vendors, dog and human food, and much more fun!
The 6th Annual Goldens in the Park is free to attend; however, there are plenty of opportunities to help the group raise funds. Local businesses and individuals who love pets may sponsor the event. Booth rentals for food vendors and businesses that sell animal products and services are also available.
