The San Luis Obispo Symphony is kicking off a brand new season – its first fully curated by new Music Director Andrew Sewell – on Saturday, October 6 at 7:30 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center.
The opening night concert, Brahms’ Third Symphony, highlights Andrew Sewell’s innovative programming, juxtaposing familiar favorites with exciting new experiences. The evening begins with one of the world’s most beloved composers, Johannes Brahms, and his complicated, moody and technically masterful Symphony No. 3.
After intermission, the audience will be transported with Thomas Cabaniss’ rich and atmospheric “Double Rainbow” Concerto for Two Pianos and Orchestra. Special guest artists, hand-selected by Sewell, are renowned pianists and founders of pianoSonoma Music Festival, Michael Shinn and Jessica Chow Shinn, taking the stage at twin concert grand pianos. The pair performed the “Double Rainbow” at its world premiere with the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra just last year.
Tickets start at $20 on sale now at slosymphony.org or through the PAC Box Office at (805) 756-4849.
Guests are invited to come early for Symphonic Forays, an intimate conversation that precedes each performance in our Concerts in the Cohan series. For opening night on October 6, Music Director Andrew Sewell will be joined by Michael Shinn and Jessica Chow Shinn, composer Thomas Cabaniss, and Catherine Lansdowne, Executive Director for SLO Symphony, to share interesting and entertaining insights into the music to be performed that evening.
Symphonic Forays begins at 6:30 p.m. and is free for all ticket holders. For more visit: https://www.slosymphony.org
