October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Pilates Collective SLO is supporting the cause by hosting two events for those affected by the disease. Starting October 16th, Pilates Collective SLO will be hosting a 3-week class series, The Pink Ribbon Program, where participants will dive into safe, pilates-based movements that can support their journey through or after breast cancer. Learn the special considerations, techniques, and modifications for moving safely through each phase of the process while taking special care of the challenges of breast cancer including lymphedema, cording, frozen shoulder, and decreased energy levels. Classes will take place October 16, 23 and 30 at 5:30 p.m.
In addition to the Pink Ribbon Program series, the studio will also be hosting a 2-hour Workshop and Discussion, Movement Through Cancer, on October 20 from 12-2pm. In this workshop, participants will learn the partial anatomy and theory behind a cancer diagnosis in a supportive, and non-threatening environment. Discover the ways movement can help assist through a cancer journey, and the special considerations to be aware of such as Lymphadema, Cording, Frozen Shoulder, decrease of energy levels, and physical changes. The second half of this workshop will be a forum and discussion on the psychological toll breast cancer can take on those navigating the waters of this disease. Discuss the ways that San Luis Obispo can help to support the brave women going through breast cancer and what resources the fitness and wellness community can potentially provide. Find community with other women going through cancer and find support and encouragement through those that gone into remission.
