The San Luis Obispo Vocal Arts Ensemble have returned to San Luis Obispo after a two week tour of Spain performing over ten concerts and competing at the internationally acclaimed choral festival, Canta Al Mar, held in Calello, just outside Barcelona. The 5th Annual Canta Al Mar welcomed 49 choirs from 28 nations. The San Luis Obispo Vocal Arts Ensemble, a 50 plus adult choir who has performed locally and globally for over 40 years, was the only choir from the United States invited to participate at the choral festival.
Vocal Arts came home with a silver medal in folk music, silver medal in mixed choir and gold medal in sacred music; plus, a special award was giving to musical director and founder Gary Lamprecht for his selection of repertoire. The group of 45 singers, staff and guests enjoyed sightseeing and cultural events in Malaga, Sevilla and Barcelona while performing in the country.
Vocal Arts will open their season here at home, with their annual holiday concerts “Season’s Greetings” on December 1 and 2 at the Mission San Luis Obispo and Cuesta College CPAC. Tickets and information can be found at vocalarts.org/events.
