Cal Poly Arts is bringing Jon Batiste and Joshua Stafford to the Performing Art Center on January 12 and 13.

On Saturday, January 12, 2019, 8 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center, Cal Poly Arts presents Jon Batiste – the popular bandleader from “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” This unique, intimate solo piano concert marks Batiste’s Central Coast debut.

There’s something utterly awe-inspiring about Batiste’s combination of exuberant charisma, jaw-dropping talent and dapper sense of style. In a flash, he transitions from belting a note to busting a dance move to wailing on the “harmonaboard” (a kind of harmonica and keyboard) and then commanding the piano with virtuosic skill and artistry.

The New Orleans-bred, New York-based musician balances a demanding international performance schedule with his late-night role and serving as Artistic Director at Large of the National Jazz Museum in Harlem.

Student and adult tickets cost $41.60 – $72

On Sunday, January 13, 2019, 3 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center, acclaimed organist Joshua Stafford performs as part of the prestigious Forbes Organ Series.

Praised for his meticulous technique, innate musicality, and constant musical engagement, Stafford is in demand as a recitalist, improviser and choral accompanist. Known for his technically flawless and nuanced performances, Stafford has performed at many notable venues, including Philadelphia’s Kimmel Center, the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., and on the Wanamaker Organ in Philadelphia.

Stafford’s afternoon concert will include Dvorak’s “Carnival Overture” and “Allegro” from Symphony No. 8, Franck’s Final in B-flat, Vierne’s “Romance” from Organ Symphony No. 4, and various works by Liszt.

Student and adult tickets are $28.80 & $36, respectively.

All tickets may be purchased in advance at the Cal Poly Ticket Office, Monday – Saturday, noon to 6 p.m., located on Grand Avenue on the Cal Poly campus; by phone at 805/756-4849; online at calpolyarts.org.
