On Saturday, May 11, elementary school jump ropers from across San Luis Obispo County will compete in the Y’s annual Jump-In Competition. This family- oriented event will be held at the Cuesta College Gymnasium from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. “Jump-In” is sponsored by Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center, Twin Cities Community Hospital, Cuesta College, and Justin Winery. Admission to the event is free to the public.

The two-part competition includes timed speed jumping and choreographed musical performances by YMCA After School Enrichment Program participants. Each local school site team has picked a theme, music and costumes, and has been busing practicing and perfecting their jumping skills. Judging the event this year are Michael Keleman (Tenet Health), Maria Kelly (Justin Winery), Jason Curtis (Cuesta College), and Kayla Cash (AMF Media Group). Teams will be scored on their precision, creativity, and difficulty, in hopes of defeating the reigning champions, the Harloe Hoppers.

All Central Coast families are invited to cheer on the competitors and learn about the Y’s summer programs. Local community organizations will also be on hand to share additional health and education resources.

Jump-In is part of the Y’s HEPA (Healthy Eating and Physical Activity) program and demonstrates the Y’s areas of focus, youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. More information about the SLO County YMCA can be found at sloymca.org.
