An intimate contemporary American restaurant on the edge of downtown San Luis Obispo equipped with a full bar and California-focused wine list, Nate’s on Marsh is a stylish home for more fun fine dining.
“Like California itself, San Luis Obispo is both a place and a lifestyle. Sprawling and rural, it sits at the intersection of surf culture, cowboy culture and California cuisine. And that is a fine place to be,” declares Freda Moon of The New York Times.
Cal Poly alum and San Luis Obispo native Nate Long wholeheartedly agrees. He founded Nate’s on Marsh to offer locals and visitors alike the ultimate in Central Coast hospitality. A tribute to comforting classics with a nod to what’s next, guests can expect Niman Ranch ribeye, housemade pappardelle with Tablas Creek lamb ragu, and sea bass paired with seasonal vegetables and house made lavash crackers. All in a warm and inviting atmosphere.
“I’m always drawn to classic comfort food that people genuinely enjoy. The staple dishes and drinks guests find themselves ordering again and again,” shares Nate.
Before earning a degree in Agribusiness & Agricultural Business Operations at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Nate worked his way up San Francisco’s top restaurants with acclaimed mentors like Chef Joseph Manzare and Mary Klingbeil. During this time, he discovered the secrets to lasting success — clear communication, seasonal menu planning, and a commitment to exceed industry standards. Now Nate leads his own hospitality and food company with a focus on guest experience, NRL Food Group.
Nate’s first hire for the flagship restaurant of NRL Food Group? Chef Libry Durasman. From delighting guests at the Emmys and Golden Globes to serving past presidents, his talent for taste comes naturally. Decades of living and cooking around the world paired with an appreciation for the Central Coast’s exceptional produce and protein make Darusman perfectly suited to helm the kitchen of Nate’s on Marsh.
Ideally located at 450 Marsh Street, Nate’s on Marsh is a welcome addition to the neighborhood, where there are far fewer dining options compared to the three-block radius beyond Mission Plaza.
Previous owner of the location, Gennaro Rosato is “…pleased and happy to see the restaurant transfer to such dedicated new hands. After spending so many years establishing Gennaro’s Garden & Grill, we wanted to make sure that the right person would come along and preserve its rich history while continuing to provide and contribute to the community. When Nate walked us through his strategy plan, we knew he would make the perfect next owner. We are proud and honored to pass the restaurant to another local that prides himself in excellence.”
