Wacker Wealth Partners was honored to sponsor Hospice SLO County’s Light Up a Life Ceremony in remembrance of loved ones who have died over the past year.
Held November 30 at Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa, the ceremony marked the 37th year for the event. Community members who donated $25 or more had their loved one’s name read at the service, which was followed by a candle-lighting ceremony outside the mission.
The hospice also hosted a Paws to Remember Ceremony on December 1 in honor of beloved companion animals who have died.
Community members who wanted a name read at either ceremony donated $25 or more, with the proceeds benefiting Hospice SLO County.
“Throughout the year, all Hospice SLO County services are provided without charge to clients, their families, or third-party payers. However, they are not without cost to provide,” Hospice SLO County reported. “We rely on the financial support of individuals and businesses in the community, and your gift is extremely important to continuing our 43-year mission of providing an additional layer of support and a safety net for families.”
Hospice reported that during the 2020-2021 fiscal year, volunteers provided services at no charge valued at $375,322, including:
- In-home respite care
- End-of-life doula support
- Music, yoga, reiki
- Pet peace of mind
- Administrative support
- Individual/family grief counseling
- Support groups
Patrick O’Hara, CFP®, a Wealth Advisor and Shareholder at Wacker Wealth Partners, is a longtime supporter of Hospice SLO County. He took part in Light Up a Life by reading “Beannacht/Blessing,” a poem that Irish author John O’Donohue wrote in honor of his mother.
“Light Up a Life is such an important tradition for our community,” O’Hara said. “Like hospice itself, it brings comfort in times of loss. And in return, we support hospice so that it can continue bringing comfort whenever it is needed.
