Charlene Rosales, the director of governmental affairs for the San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce recently graduated from the Leadership California, Issues & Trends Program a prestigious, yearlong course for 60 female leaders from across the state of California.

“Having Charlene in the Class of 2013 was important to us,” said Leadership California Executive Director Pamela Hemann. “She brought her knowledge of the business and nonprofit sectors to the discussion. Doing so with perspectives of the Central Coast region was important to the diversity of the class.”

The California Issues & Trends Program provides focused programming for women leaders, exposing them to critical public and private sector issues and enhancing their competitive knowledge on California from state, national and global perspectives.

“Leadership California broadened my view of statewide issues extensively, how these complex issues affect us locally and new tactics on how to approach them,” Rosales said. “And I was introduced to, and made friends with, some of the most influential people in the state who were just as interested in how we do business in SLO as I was in how things work in their cities. I highly encourage our local women leaders to consider this program as a significant means of learning how to more actively expand their role in business and public policy at a higher level.”

Leadership California connects female leaders from across the state with top decision-makers, thought leaders and practitioners.

Promoting creativity and innovation through the sharing of ideas and best practices, the 1,300 Leadership California alumni are empowered to contribute more fully to California’s vision for the future and to the communities and companies in which they live and work.

“Charlene’s enthusiasm was contagious,” Hemann said. “She has become a cheerleader for us on the Central Coast. We look forward to including more women from the area in the program.”

Founded in 1992, Leadership California was built to inspire, inform, and advance women leaders who would influence California’s future. Providing a foundation and pathway for women who care about advancement, achievement, and significance these alumna serve on nonprofit boards and are knowledgeable appointees for state boards and commissions.
