United Way of San Luis Obispo County is offering free tax preparation assistance for low to middle-income families countywide. We will offer FREE tax preparation assistance at the Los Osos, Arroyo Grande and San Luis Obispo Libraries on Sundays from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. during tax season.

Volunteers will greet tax payers, help them set up online accounts and navigate the MyFreeTaxes.org software. Please visit VolunteerSLO.org to sign up. With the MyFreeTaxes software tool. United Way helps taxpayers easily and accurately file their own taxes from a computer or smartphone. MyFreeTaxes® is a free and easy way to file federal and state tax returns for free. United Way is proud to offer opportunities to help families meet their basic needs while gaining the skills to plan for and accomplish their long-term financial goals.

Additional volunteers are needed to greet taxpayers who come to drop off their tax documents, assist with the collection of required forms and organize paperwork for tax preparation by IRS certified tax preparers. Volunteers are needed at our Drop-Off VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program at Colony Park Community Center in Atascadero on Tuesdays from 11:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Volunteers can sign up for shifts beginning February 8 and ending April 12, 2022. United Way’s Financial Stability programs help taxpayers save money and encourage more eligible taxpayers to apply for the Earned Income Tax Credit which helps to increase their financial stability. All volunteers must wear masks and follow all required COVID guidelines during their shifts and be 18 years or older, no tax preparation experience necessary.
