SLO Partners, one of the leading providers of apprenticeship programs in California, today announced the graduation of its 2022 precision manufacturing bootcamp class, consisting of locals who have upskilled to pursue careers in the Central Coast manufacturing industry.

The news comes amid ongoing talks of an impending recession and concerns that the labor markets will soften. “A lot of people are wondering how the changing economic landscape will affect their careers and job prospects,” said Paula Mathias-Fryer, Senior Director at SLO Partners. “While there is uncertainty, it’s important to remember that there are growing industries on the Central Coast that residents can access through upskilling paths.”

Demand for skilled workers has been particularly high for manufacturing companies located on the Central Coast. Businesses based here have experienced growth over the last few years and have continued to expand their workforce. “The Central Coast offers many advantages that have fueled industry growth: a strategic location in the state’s supply chain, a strong cluster of clients in aerospace and other related sectors, and an attractive quality of life for starting and growing a business,” said Melissa James, President and CEO at REACH, the region’s economic development organization. “Many companies are expanding as fast as workforce availability allows them.”

“The manufacturing hub on the Central Coast is bustling, and at Rantec we are ensuring we stay competitive,” said Eric Henderson, Director of Manufacturing at Rantec Power Systems. “The products we build in Los Osos can only be built here. Our products required high-tech, complex, and reliable manufacturing processes; which is what we are able to do here in California.  I’m excited to pull in talented people from the local area and see where their careers can go, given the opportunity here at Rantec.”

“It’s a field with a lot of potential for people who want to work with their hands and be on the cutting-edge of technology,” continued James. “With low barriers to entry, it’s accessible to those looking for a career transition. You don’t necessarily need a four-year degree but you can make a good wage.”
