Your community newspaper brought to life.
Good Morning SLO is our platform for sharing ideas, news and inspiration. A monthly program that brings community leaders, business owners, nonprofit executives and staffers together, and enables us to reconnect, engage and learn from each other.
Our goal is to provide insight into business, community and legislative issues and share the stories of those making a difference. We want audience members to leave with ideas and information about how to better their personal and professional lives.
Good Morning SLO happens on the fourth Thursday of every month except November when it is on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.
Nearly 25 years after Kristin Smart’s disappearance, the arrest of Paul Flores started the process of bringing justice to those responsible. Sheriff Ian Parkinson led the investigation culminating in the arrest and conviction of Paul Flores, and will join us to talk about finally bringing some closure to the family and the community.
It was a little more than a year ago when Courtney Haile, a founding member of R.A.C.E. Matters SLO, joined us to talk about creating a welcoming community for diverse populations coming to our region. She will return to the stage to share good news about a new business coming to our community that will majorly further that goal.
Since we last heard from Precision Construction Services, the accolades have just kept coming. In May, the Small Business Administration will recognize the founders as Small Business Persons of the Year, and we’ve invited Karl Vaillancourt to reflect on how a community-focused vision for economic development drives Precision’s growth.
Despite taking place on April 1, the Central Coast’s first annual Beaver Festival was no joke! Beavers, the often hidden yet amazing little architectural engineers, have a strong community in our region. Cooper Lienhart will join us from the Beaver Brigade to talk about local populations, beaver cams and how you can go visit a beaver dam.
CELEBRATING CULTURE, CREATING BELONGING
Arab American Heritage Month serves to inform about Arab culture, expand narratives held about Arab people and build a sense of belonging in our community. Sandra Sarrouf will join us from Cultural Creations Collaborative to explore the diversity of Arab people, reflect on local cultural celebrations and identify the significance of the month.
Tenet Health Central Coast launched a collaborative program that brings Cal Poly Biomedical Engineering students onto the hospital floor. Emily Wolfert, a participant in the program, will join us to share more about innovation in how to track blood loss, reduce suture time, improve monitoring accuracy and more.
The morning will end on a high note (literally) with Opera San Luis Obispo. They will wow us with a snippet from Johann Strauss’ Die Fledermaus us ahead of their upcoming performance at the Performing Arts Center on May 13 and 14.
