Your community newspaper brought to life.
Good Morning SLO is our platform for sharing ideas, news and inspiration. A monthly program that brings community leaders, business owners, nonprofit executives and staffers together, and enables us to reconnect, engage and learn from each other.
Our goal is to provide insight into business, community and legislative issues and share the stories of those making a difference. We want audience members to leave with ideas and information about how to better their personal and professional lives.
Good Morning SLO happens on the fourth Thursday of every month except November when it is on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.
The ability to see with 20/20 vision (whether naturally or through lenses) is easy to take for granted. That’s not the case throughout the world, where residents can go their whole life without vision care. Supervisor Dawn Ortiz-Legg will share about her family connection to the cause and how Rotary is traveling to bring optometry care to help more folks see clearly.
The Central Coast Veterans Memorial Museum has been a SLO community staple for more than two decades. They recently unveiled a redesigned World War II exhibit with the impactful addition of a piece of the historic USS Arizona. Bart Topham will share more about the importance of this artifact, how they came to have it and what’s new at the museum.
Murals are how communities uplift art, express values and beautify streets. SLO County has a lot of them, each unique to its location. We’ve invited Alyssa Manno to join us and talk about Visit SLO CAL’s mural trail. This brand new, self guided tour of public art throughout the county is live and ready to tell the story of our community to visitors and locals alike.
The Dewar family’s unflinching commitment to community is exemplary of SLO County values. With more than 90 years fueling the local economy, they remain most proud of their support of community programs like 4-H, FFA, tractor restoration and more. Morgan Dewar will join us to share their history and help us celebrate this incredible anniversary.
SLO 4 Home is working tirelessly to assist refugees from Syria and Afghanistan relocate to the Central Coast, create community and thrive. In anticipation of Immigrant Heritage Month, we’ve invited them to share stories of recent success, the trials of transition and what’s coming next.
The City of San Luis Obispo’s Mobile Crisis Unit has been assisting with mental health and behavioral crisis intervention for nearly a year now. We’ve invited Todd Tuggle, Fire Chief for the City of SLO, to introduce himself, talk about his first few months on the job and fill us in on the pilot program’s initial results.
We’ve invited Hakeem Sanusi, founder and vocalist of Silk Ocean and winner of a New Times Music Award, to serenade us with pieces inspired from modern hip hop, rock and classic funk, seamlessly blending the old and new to facilitate a fresh listening experience.
