This year, Susan Polk Insurance has reached an important milestone celebrating 30 years of membership with the San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce. A lot has happened in the health insurance industry since then, but they have been there through it all, serving SLO and guiding clients through the changes.

They were there in…

1991: Major Risk Medical Insurance Program

They were there when the MRMIP guaranteed access to health insurance, and also when the AIM program offered coverage to women already pregnant. These two programs were funded by the tobacco tax enacted by Proposition 99.

1995: The Internet

When the world wide web arrived on the scene, they were one of the first businesses in SLO to go on-line. They took advantage of the new technology to strengthen efforts to educate the public about health insurance access.

1998: Children’s Health Insurance Program

They were there to enroll hundreds of families into the CHIP, also known as the “Healthy Families” program. Then in 2005, they were there again to help expand coverage by the Children’s Health Initiative of San Luis Obispo County.

2006: Medicare Part D

They were there in 2006 to enroll Medicare clients in Part D to address the high cost of prescriptions.

2014: Obamacare

They were there when the Affordable Care Act (also known as “Obamacare”) went into full effect, providing comprehensive reform to improve the accessibility, affordability, and quality of health care.

2021: American Rescue Act

When the American Rescue Act increased subsidies to families allowing them greater access to health care, they were there.

2022: Covered California

They were there when the IRS agreed to fix the family glitch in Covered California, allowing employees to enroll their families.

…and they’ll still be there.

In the coming years, they’re sure to see just as many groundbreaking developments as they have in the past. But no matter how the landscape changes, they will still be here, serving clients and helping to guide them forward.

30 Years in Under 2 Minutes

To celebrate this important milestone, they’ve created a short video to take you ‘back to the future’ through the past three decades. Without any further ado, grab your popcorn and enjoy the show—and don’t forget: be kind and rewind!
