Navy Nurse Corps, Lt. JG Aileen Crews, a resident of San Luis Obispo, will celebrate her 100th birthday in July.
To honor this World War II veteran’s upcoming birthday, The Central Coast Veterans Memorial Museum (CCVMM), is hosting a Birthday Mail Call, asking our community to send birthday cards or letters of gratitude for her service. The Veterans Museum will collect cards and present them to her family prior to Aileen’s private celebration in July. Aileen served from 1941 – 1945, joining the U.S. Navy Nurses Corps through a scholarship nursing program. While stationed at Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego, she cared for wounded seamen. When reflecting on her upcoming 100th birthday, Aileen shares her immense pride for her family’s 4 generations of service and patriotism.
