When Central Coast students and teachers are back in school after the holiday break they will now have access to a unique curriculum designed to help learn how to start their own business and build their entrepreneurship skills. Grant funding from The Business & Entrepreneurship Center at Cuesta College will fund the program for some classrooms.
Local San Luis Obispo business, Biz Whiz Academy offers turnkey, downloadable business plans and entrepreneur skill builder lessons for kids, teens and parents to follow. The plans act as a blueprint for kids to create successful businesses and are developed by a team of business experts at Biz Whiz Academy. Each plan is kid-tested and refined to create an easy-to-follow system for kids and families to start a business from lemonade stands, dog walking, car washing and more.
Now, through a collaboration with Biz Whiz Academy, Generation E Institute, a non-profit that offers curricula and experiential learning programs for youth that focus on entrepreneurship and a generous grant from The Business & Entrepreneurship Center at Cuesta College, select Central Coast High School teachers can now become certified to teach entrepreneurship and access Biz Whiz Academy products as part of an 18-week or semester long accredited entrepreneurship course. Teachers can take advantage of this curriculum 0r use Biz Whiz Academy products and lesson plans to help teach students business skills. During the course students launch at least two businesses and use Biz Whiz Academy plans as a resource. This program will guide students through the critical thinking, problem solving and idea generation required to launch a business.
“Biz Whiz Academy provides simple, turnkey business plans and tools for kids to develop a successful business and learn practical skills needed today. As entrepreneurs ourselves, we know what it’s like to learn the hard way so we wanted to make it easy for kids to run a successful business,” said Erik Amato CEO of Biz Whiz Academy. “We’re thrilled to partner with Generation E Institute and The Business & Entrepreneurship Center at Cuesta Collage to offer kids and teens in our backyard a chance to learn about entrepreneurship and start their own business using our business and skill building plans.”
“The Business & Entrepreneurship Center at Cuesta College is investing $65,000 of grant funds in the region to underwrite the cost of the entrepreneurship course to create a career pathway for some Central Coast students. The grant was awarded by the California Community College Chancellors Office and the Economic & Workforce Development program,” said Israel Dominguez Director, Business & Entrepreneurship Center at Cuesta College. This region includes Santa Barbara and Ventura counties.
“Together, The Business & Entrepreneurship Center at Cuesta College, Biz Whiz Academy, and the Generation E Institute are working to educate youth as entrepreneurs,” said Cheryl Peters, Generation E Institute Executive Director. “This process forms the essential “pipeline” for youth to become economically contributing citizens in our communities and provide limitless opportunities for their future.”
