Richard Krumholz has left his long tenure with Caltrans to join the private sector with Omni-Means Engineers & Planners, Ltd., a 32 year-old firm serving both public and private entities from five regional offices throughout California. As Omni-Means Transportation Manager for the entire Central Coast of California, Mr. Krumholz brings extensive experience in planning, funding and constructing transportation projects of all sizes.
Krumholz began work with Caltrans in 1979 and advanced to Director of District 5, which covers five Central Coast counties from Santa Barbara north to Santa Cruz. At the time of his retirement from Caltrans in 2012, District 5 had a record $450 million worth of capital projects under construction, including the major widening of Highway 46 in San Luis Obispo County and the widening of the Santa Maria River Bridge connecting Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties.
“We chose Richard for his proven track record of effectively managing people and projects and his ability to work collaboratively with public agencies and private parties to successfully deliver complex transportation projects,” said Omni-Means President H. Ross Ainsworth.
In addition to major construction projects, Krumholz initiated and oversaw the Elkhorn Slough Advance Mitigation Program, a model partnership between Caltrans, Elkhorn Slough Foundation, the Transportation Agency for Monterey County and multiple resource agencies.
He was also the Caltrans point person for the Santa Barbara “101 in Motion” project, a comprehensive planning effort to identify needs and alternative solutions to recurring congestion in the U. S. 101 corridor in southern Santa Barbara County.
“I have always found Omni-Means to be at the forefront in terms of sound engineering and innovative transportation solutions,” said Mr. Krumholz. “I am excited to join this professional, hard-working team and be their Central Coast representative.”
