Central Coast Childrens Choir 300The Central Coast Children’s Choir (CCCC) is welcoming new members throughout the months of August and September. SLO County girls and boys can join Debut Choir (grades 2-3), Apprecenti Choir (grades 4-6), Premiere Choir (graeids 5-9) and Concert Choir (grades 6-12). CCCC provdes a fun and nurturing environment in which children will be encouraged to foster a love of music. Rehearsals begin on August 26th for the two oldest choirs (Premiere and Concert), and a friendly but thorough audition is required to place new upper elementary, junior and senior high singers in the appropriate level based on their experience, music skills, and their vocal ability. Please call for an audition time.
Elementary school students interested in Debut or Apprentice Choir do not need to audition. Singers and parents are encouraged to attend an “Open House” rehearsal on Tuesday, Sept. 9th (Debut Choir 4:00-5:00pm and Apprentice Choir 4:00-5:30pm). Tuesday rehearsals take place at the SLO United Methodist Church at 1515 Fredricks Street. North County Debut Choir is also offered on Wednesdays (4:00-5:00pm) at Vineyard Elementary in Templeton, and interested singers are invited to visit starting Sept. 10th.
New this fall is the addition of the North County Apprentice Choir, an intermediate level choir that builds upon the music foundations learned in Debut Choir. Beloved local music teacher and director JoAnne Stoddard will be leading this group of third through sixth grade boys and girls. This choir meets on Wednesdays from 4:00-5:30pm at Vineyard Elementary school. Mrs. Stoddard is excited to be able to share her passion for music with the children of Templeton once again.
Children in kindergarten and first grade can enroll in “Music Makers”, a nine week interactive music class starting September 23rd. Classes take place in SLO (Tuesdays) and Templeton (Wednesdays) from 3:10-3:55pm. The last session culminates with an in-class performance for parents.
All of the choirs will share their music with the community during CCCC’s annual Holiday Concert, “What Sweeter Music”, during the weekend of December 13th and 14th at SLO United Methodist Church. CCCC singers will also be performing in a community collaboration of the opera, “Aida” on Oct. 11th and 12th and the Forbes Organ Holiday Sing-Along on December 21st, both at the SLO Performing Arts Center.
Founded in 1994, the Central Coast Children’s Choir draws its choir of 100 boys and girls from communities within San Luis Obispo County. In addition to their concert series, the singers collaborate and perform with Opera SLO, SLO Vocal Arts Ensemble, the SLO Symphony, Cuesta Master Chorale, and the Cal Poly Choirs and Orchestras. During the summer of 2014, choir members travelled to England to perform in a choir festival at Canterbury and Southwark Cathedrals.
The Central Coast Children’s Choir is devoted to creating choral excellence, instilling values of self-discipline and commitment and building lasting friendships. The goal is to inspire the artist within each child through the power of music. Please call 464-0443 or email cccc-slo@charter.net for application packets or more information.
