On Wednesday, June 5, the San Luis Obispo Parks and Recreation Department and consultant WRT will share information regarding the Community Needs Assessment report and ask the community for feedback on the future of parks, recreation, and facilities in the City. The Parks and Recreation Master Plan and General Plan Element guide how the City maintains, supports, and aspires to provide existing and additional parks, facilities, and recreation services in the community. It was last updated in 2001, and the community’s feedback is important so their ideas can be included over the next 20 years.
Four public workshops were held from September 2018 through March 2019 for the community to weigh in on their parks, recreation, and facilities needs for the future. Based on community input and the results of the Community Needs Assessment, the Department needs additional community input for priorities for the following:
- SLO Swim Center
- Sinsheimer Park
- Sinsheimer Stadium
- Damon Garcia Sports Complex
- Laguna Lake Park & dog area
- Jack House Gardens
- SLO Senior Center
- Priorities for neighborhoods

There will be a short presentation on the Community Needs Assessment report at the start of each session, then community members will have a chance to provide their input at stations focusing on the topics listed above. All ages are welcomed and encouraged to participate at the workshop.
