San Luis Obispo 2015-17 City Budget Goal Setting
SLO City Council members set priorities for the City’s 2015-17 budget last Saturday at their biennial goal-setting workshop. The goals were unanimously adopted by the City Council after weighing community input and ideas submitted by each council member. The three goals include; protection and maintenance of open space, improving safety and accessibility for bicyclists and pedestrians, and supporting infrastructure that would allow for diverse housing options for a variety of income levels. The scoring system allotted each council member a total of 30 points to spread among a list of ten proposed goals with “4”s and “5”s being utilized for each of their top choices—a change from previous scoring methods to allow for a more specific identification of fewer priorities. This resulted in much higher scores for the top priorities, and significantly lower scores for the remainder of the list, illuminating Council members’ preferences. The outcome also reflects the effective advocacy of the Chamber as several goals align with the Chamber’s economic vision. Within almost every goal, the designation of Measure G funds is included for specific objectives. Click the image above to see the complete results.
