Registration for fall 2014 classes at Cuesta College is underway and the college is seeing increases in enrollment.

Cuesta 170More than 6,500 students are already registered for courses – nearly 100 more than this time last year – and the number of full-time students is up by more than 12 percent, meaning students are taking more classes. The fall semester runs August 18 – December 19. Hundreds of courses are being offered at the San Luis Obispo Campus, North County Campus in Paso Robles, South County Center in Arroyo Grande and online. Enrollment increases are being seen in each area.

“We are seeing an increase in enrollment as a result of many things, most notably the awareness of our Promise program, the public’s confidence in our accreditation status and the successful development of our 21 transfer degrees,” said Vice President of Student Services Sandee McLaughlin.

New for the fall 2014 semester:

  • 13 new full-time faculty. The new faculty will work in the areas of mathematics, kinesiology, construction,  psychology, art history, business, Spanish, biology, graphic design, library, counseling and student health services.
  • Five new specialized certificate programs in the areas of android and iOS development, internet and digital marketing, EMT training, and searching and researching strategies.
  • The first class of Cuesta Promise students will begin this semester. So far, more than 650 recent San Luis Obispo County high school graduates have received the Promise, a scholarship that amounts to nearly $700, providing a fee-free first semester.
  • Students taking courses on the North County Campus can enjoy new extended bus service hours. Beginning  August 17, a new RTA service will offer additional buses that leave the campus at 7:00 p.m., 8:00 p.m., 9:00 p.m. and 10:05 p.m. The buses departing at 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. will serve Paso Robles residents only, while the later two departures will serve Paso Robles, Templeton and Atascadero.
