e-InsiderLeslie “Les” Naman, 72, whose great-grandfather Charles Johnson was the first mayor of San Luis Obispo and developed a major part of downtown, passed away suddenly late last week. Naman had inherited several downtown buildings from the Network on Higuera Street to the Johnson Building at the corner of Higuera and Chorro streets (which housed the former Chamber offices), and the adjacent buildings on Chorro Street. Although none of the Naman/Johnson family had lived here for decades, the family continued to have a deep love of San Luis Obispo and always put the welfare of the community and their tenants ahead of short-term profits. Les, a physician by profession, continued that tradition with gentleness, compassion and grace. He will be sorely missed.
