Your community newspaper brought to life.

Good Morning SLO is our platform for sharing ideas, news and inspiration. A monthly program that brings community leaders, business owners, nonprofit executives and staffers together, and enables us to reconnect, engage and learn from each other.

Our goal is to provide insight into business, community and legislative issues and share the stories of those making a difference. We want audience members to leave with ideas and information about how to better their personal and professional lives.

Good Morning SLO happens on the fourth Thursday of every month except November when it is on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.

YOUR VOTE COUNTED

How we vote is one of many things that have changed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. We’ve invited SLO County Clerk-Recorder, Elaina Cano, to share insight into what these changes look like locally, how every legal vote is counted and the systems in place that ensure every eligible citizen can vote.

TURBOCHARGED TECH PARK

The Cal Poly Technology Park is a home on campus for technology-based businesses that plays an important role in increasing collaboration between faculty, students and industry. Jim Dunning, Associate Vice President for Corporate Engagement & Innovation, will share an update on this unique economic asset and what the future holds.

PUBLIC HEALTH UPDATE

Since MPX(Monkeypox) was declared a public health emergency, the Central Coast has seen only a handful of confirmed cases — and many questions about this long-known virus’ sudden appearance in California. Dr. Penny Borenstein will share an update on the outbreak, vaccine distribution, and what you need to know to stay safe.

LATINO CULTURE IS CALIFORNIA CULTURE

The Latino Outreach Council has been working to support the unique needs of the rapidly growing Latino community in SLO County since 1992. Back from a COVID recess with renewed energy, Jacqueline Frederick will share an update on the organization and how businesses can be involved in their important work.

PROVIDING SHELTER AND YIELDING OPPORTUNITY

As homeless service organizations uncover new ways to provide housing and support, empathetic and knowledgeable staff are needed to bring them forward. We asked Matt Navarrette to share his perspective on leadership and how his experience with the El Camino Homeless Organization led to his role as Shelter Manager.

WHAT’S THE SCORE?

So much is made of the scores given to wine. Is it okay that my favorite wine got an 87? Should I pay hundreds more for a wine that got 100 points rather than 98? What went into that score? We are bringing Dan Fredman, SLO wine publicist and marketing consultant, to give us some thoughts on wine scoring.

SLO WINDS ORCHESTRA

SLO Winds Orchestra is dedicated to performing the finest works written at the highest possible artistic level and hopes to foster a better appreciation of the wind ensemble repertoire and make an important contribution to the cultural vitality of our community.
