Your community newspaper brought to life.
Good Morning SLO is our platform for sharing ideas, news and inspiration. A monthly program that brings community leaders, business owners, nonprofit executives and staffers together, and enables us to reconnect, engage and learn from each other.
Our goal is to provide insight into business, community and legislative issues and share the stories of those making a difference. We want audience members to leave with ideas and information about how to better their personal and professional lives.
Good Morning SLO happens on the fourth Thursday of every month except November when it is on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.
FEATURING
THE CURRENT STATUS OF NONPROFITS
The nonprofit funding landscape is shifting fast, and services provided by our nonprofit partners are being significantly impacted. Debby Nicklas and Jane Pomeroy will join us from Change Collective, a consulting team focused on assisting nonprofits, to give us a real picture of where things stand, what funding opportunities are available and what everyone should know about supporting our local nonprofits whose services lift up countless neighbors when they need a bridge to brighter days.
SEMESTERS ARE COMING
Cal Poly’s historic shift from quarters to semesters takes place this August, and the change is one of the most significant academic transformations the university has undertaken, with ripple effects throughout our community. Rachel Fernflores, Director and Project Manager of Semester Conversion, will walk us through what this change means, how it’s being executed and what the broader community can expect as this new chapter unfolds.
WHAT IT MEANS FOR BUSINESS
Cal Poly’s semester conversion isn’t just a campus story, it’s a business story, too. LeBren Harris, CEO of Downtown SLO, will break down how the switch will reshape foot traffic, customer patterns and the rhythm of commerce in our downtown. LeBren will share her perspective on what every customer-facing business needs to know about this change so they can get ahead of it.
INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS
At the Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo County, every day is Earth Day. Daniel Bohlman, Deputy Director, will share how the Land Conservancy brings remarkable creativity and effectiveness to its work, finding solutions that meet the needs of landowners across every kind of terrain and landscape, making a lasting difference for the place we call home.
LISTEN TO THE MUSIC
Great music has a way of bringing a community together, and few people know that better than Andrew Sewell, Music Director and Maestro of the SLO Symphony. Andrew will join us to share what is new and exciting at the Symphony, including a look ahead at a milestone anniversary season that promises to be truly memorable for music lovers across the region.
A CELEBRITY IN OUR MIDST
Right here in San Luis Obispo, one of our own is competing on the national stage. Florencia Breda, owner of Breda, is currently battling it out on Food Network’s The Ultimate Baking Championship, and while she can’t yet share the outcome of this year’s championship, she’ll join us to share what the wild ride has been like, plus celebrate the one-year anniversary of the incredible business she has built right here in our community.
CIGARBOX RAY
After building more than 140 cigarbox guitars and ukeleles for charity, CigarBox Ray has turned to performing the almost 700 songs on his setlist! We’ll close out the morning with a selection from his roster.
