Since 1982, Jim Clendenen shaped Au Bon Climat into a benchmark for Burgundian-style Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in California. Inspired by his travels to Burgundy, he embraced Old World techniques—barrel fermentation, whole-cluster pressing, extended lees aging, and aging in François Frères barrels—tailoring them to the unique terroir of Santa Barbara County.
Though Jim passed in 2021, his legacy continues through a devoted winery team, many of whom he mentored personally. We’re honored to welcome his son, Knox Clendenen, as he joins us to pour and share the story behind these celebrated wines.
