Your community newspaper brought to life.
Good Morning SLO is our platform for sharing ideas, news and inspiration. A monthly program that brings community leaders, business owners, nonprofit executives and staffers together, and enables us to reconnect, engage and learn from each other.
Our goal is to provide insight into business, community and legislative issues and share the stories of those making a difference. We want audience members to leave with ideas and information about how to better their personal and professional lives.
Good Morning SLO happens on the fourth Thursday of every month except November when it is on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.
FEATURING
A DREAM COME TRUE
There’s a group of San Luis Obispo community members and businesses that volunteer their energy, support and talent to bring light and joy to terminally ill adults and their families. Ronda Beaman, Founder and Executive Director for Dream Makers SLO, will share about the organization that’s making dreams come true and creating irreplaceable memories for those who deserve it the most.
GREATEST OF ALL TIME
The Warrior Goat program has been pairing FFA students and students with disabilities to raise and show livestock together for awhile now in Santa Barbara County, and London Sutton is the first to bring the program to SLO High. London will join us onstage with Luke Henard to talk about their experience raising a goat together and their joint success in showing the goat at the Mid-State Fair.
PARKING PARKING PARKING
It’s been awhile since the taboo of parking in San Luis Obispo has made headlines, and that’s due to a lot of hard work behind the scenes to make downtown parking options easier for everyone. Donna King, Parking Program Manager for the City, will join us onstage to share some updates about the PayByPhone parking payment app, the gated garages and the work they’re doing.
SMALL BUSINESS SUCCESS
SCORE San Luis Obispo has been providing free business counseling, mentorship, workshops and business support for decades. Now, federal cuts to small business support funding are threatening the organization’s ability to provide these services at such a large scale. Robert Hyde will join us from SCORE to share more about their plans to continue to support our business community despite major setbacks.
JETSETTING FROM SBP
Alaska Airlines flies daily from San Luis Obispo airport to San Diego, Seattle, Portland and, from October through March, Las Vegas. The airline has established quite the community presence here, and John Wishmeyer, Alaska’s Station Operation Manager, will join us at Good Morning SLO to dive into what the airline is working on and what we can expect for the future.
NOT FORBIDDEN FRUIT
For decades, Okui’s Strawberry n Fruit Stand has been a testament to family farming on the Central Coast. Charles Okui will share his family’s story, and explain how their unique farming practices and extra special varieties allow them to ship around the world while maintaining their presence as a true local favorite.
VINTAGE RENEGADES
Featuring covers of rock, pop, blues and country favorites from every decade, Vintage Renegades is a six-piece big energy band, and their acoustic duo will give us a preview of their performance lined up for August 31 at Filliponi Ranch.
