Cal Poly’s Theatre and Dance Department will present Lauren Yee’s existential slasher comedy “Hookman” at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, May 10-12 and 17-19, in the Spanos Theatre on campus.
“Hookman” follows a group of women as they navigate their freshman year of college, exploring significant issues confronting students today in a manner that is simultaneously familiar and surreal. “Transitioning from home to university can prove challenging — especially when facing homesickness, roommate relationships, and an urban legend stalking those around you,” said Josh Machamer, chair of Cal Poly’s Theatre and Dance Department. The production is directed by Cal Poly theatre arts alumnus Mark Sitko, who is serving as an adjunct professor during spring quarter. “Hookman” features the work of Theatre and Dance Department students, faculty and staff, including Thomas J. Bernard, costume designer; Clint Bryson, technical director; Sarah Bryan, costume shop supervisor; faculty member Brian Healy, set designer; and senior students Beatriz Pereira, lighting designer, and Meghan Hornbacker, sound designer. In addition, about 40 students from a variety of majors are contributing to the production through construction, backstage work, management, publicity and performance.
Tickets are $20 for the public and $12 for students, senior citizens and children. Tickets are available through the Performing Arts Ticket Office from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. To order by phone, call 805-SLO-4TIX (805-756-4849).
