City of San Luis Obispo to Host Free Community Webinar on the Future of Energy Resilience in a Changing Climate

The City of San Luis Obispo will host a community webinar, titled Re-energizing SLO – Building an Energy Resilient Future, taking place Thursday, May 13 from 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm. This webinar will discuss the future of our energy system, exploring how greater energy resilience can strengthen our economy, increase public safety, and better prepare us for natural disasters associated with climate change. The event is free and open to the public. Those interested in attending can register in advance here or by visiting the project website “Events” tab.

This webinar is part of the Resilient SLO event series and will include updates on the City’s Resilient SLO project. Resilient SLO, an initiative led by the City of San Luis Obispo to better prepare the community for the impacts of climate change. The project is funded through a Caltrans Adaptation Planning Grant and is supported by consultants at Ascent Environmental and the Local Government Commission. The project will assess the extent of potential physical hazards, such as floods, extreme heat, and wildfires that are made worse by climate change, and identify the best ways to develop community resilience. Ultimately, the information will lead to an update of the City’s General Plan Safety Element.

Community engagement and input is an integral part of the project, and the upcoming webinar will highlight opportunities for community members to become involved.
