The Cuesta College Teacher Pathways Program is hosting an information
session and dinner for students and community members interested in pursuing careers in teaching.
The free event, with a Spanish translator available, will be held on Tuesday, August 27th, from 5:00 –
6:30 p.m. in Room 5401 on the San Luis Obispo Campus.

The session includes a discussion with Superintendent of San Luis Obispo County Office of Education
Dr. James Brescia about the demand for teachers in the region. According to Dr. Brescia, the county
would need a minimum of 250 new hires of teachers each year over the next five years.

Attendees will also hear from a panel of local area K-12 teachers, Cal Poly Credential Office staff, local
bilingual teacher credential candidates, and more. The event includes complimentary dinner, and
participants are given a chance to network with the Cuesta College Teacher Pathways team and students
from the Cuesta College Future Teachers Club.

“Anyone interested in learning more about teaching as a career should attend this event,” says Rosemary
Wrenn, Education Department Lead at Cuesta College. “You can find out exactly how to maximize your
time at Cuesta, speak with representatives of teacher credential programs, and meet up with other
students and community members who share your goals and dreams.”

Those interested can register for the event on eventbrite.com or Facebook. Free parking is available in
Parking Lot 2.

The Teacher Pathways Program at Cuesta College was established to meet the local and statewide
demand for qualified and diverse teachers and was made possible through a $2.5M grant awarded by the
U.S. Department of Education. The program offers specialized support through personalized academic
counseling, support services such as a dedicated Bilingual Academic Success Coach, and embedded
tutors. For more information, visit the Teacher Pathways website at bit.ly/cuestateacherpathways or
