wilshire hospiceWilshire Hospice invites the community to join us at Día de los Muertos in November. Don’t miss this event in its 6th year. This event is a local favorite, attracting thousands of community members and visitors to San Luis Obispo. Día de los Muertos San Luis Obispo is a family-friendly, festive and free celebration that bridges cultures to honor the dead and comfort the living. The grand celebration takes place in the Mission Plaza in San Luis Obispo and will include decorated altars, traditional dances, mariachi music, a Death Café, artists, art and crafts, educational talks, costume contests, Mexican food and beverages, decorating of sugar skulls and more.

Día de los Muertos San Luis Obispo is presented by Wilshire Hospice in collaboration with Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa, Latino Outreach Council, History Center of San Luis Obispo County, San Luis Obispo Museum of Art, The City of San Luis Obispo, The Downtown Association (Downtown SLO), Humankind Fair Trade, Family Search, and the California Conservation Corps. Additional opportunities to participate include a screening of the movie Coco at the Palm Theatre on October 26th at 7PM. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for kids. A second opportunity to participate is a soulful, traditional procession on November 1st (the formal date for the Day of the Dead) in San Luis Obispo at Humankind Fair Trade. The procession will begin with light snacks and drinks, and then process through Downtown SLO to the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art. The procession will be lead by Wilshire Hospice musicians, and will include traditional music of the Latinx heritage. Costumes are encouraged. At the end of the procession, remarks will be made in honor of the tradition, and a community altar will be built at the museum. Community members welcome to bring copies of photos of their loved ones, and other items to place on the altar.
