Dream Dinners, a national meal-assembly company that brings families together around the dinner table, along with its nonprofit, the Living the Dream Foundation, and Friends and Family Community Connection (FFCC), a nonprofit that brings awareness to the issue of hunger, will host the area’s first Fight Against Hunger event from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2016.
The newly built Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo Warehouse on Kendall Road will host the event where organizers are hoping to raise $13,000 and to package 40,000 meals that day. Of those meals, 13,000 will be distributed to the local community by the Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo, and the remaining 27,000 will be transported abroad to Tanzania.
During the event volunteers will be assigned to a station and, as a group, they will assemble food packages that have been scientifically designed to reverse the effects of malnutrition and starvation, with each meal consisting of 52% soy protein, 21 different vitamins and minerals, and dehydrated vegetables and rice. Each quart-size package provides enough ingredients for six meals and they only cost about 25 cents each to put together.
Individuals interested in volunteering, or in making a donation, should contact Dream Dinners storeowner Lauren Persall at (805) 786-4852 or [email protected].
