ECOSLO Presents: SLO County Creeks to Coast Cleanup

Join ECOSLO and partners all across SLO County in taking care of our beaches, creeks, waterways, and parks.

Formerly known as Coastal Cleanup Day and Creek Day – this year ECOSLO has joined forces with the Central Coast Partners for Water Quality to bring you an even bigger and better event – SLO County Creeks to Coast Cleanup!  This year, join us as we track data and cleanup not only our beautiful coastline, but several inland creeks, lakes, and parks throughout SLO County. 

Since 2005, ECOSLO coordinates beach cleanups from San Simeon to Nipomo as part of an international day of cleanup. Even though Central Coast beaches are cleaner than some, last year we removed nearly 4,000 pounds of trash and recyclables from our beaches, waterways and lakes.

For the past 10 years, Central Coast Partners for Water Quality have hosted Creek Day in late September. They’ve been tackling the creeks and inland sites – working to pick up heavy loads of trash to prevent that debris from eventually finding its way to the ocean.

This year, we’re combining efforts to bring all of SLO County together to clean our beautiful watersheds and coastline – from the creeks to the coast!

Please note that we ask you to signup online via this Eventbrite registration as it helps us anticipate supplies needed for each site. You do not need to bring your ticket with you.

This year you are able to add a donation with your ticket which will go toward supporting all data-driven cleanups that ECOSLO hosts throughout the year! Your donation makes a big difference in making the work of our nonprofit in the SLO County community possible – thank you in advance. Are there minimum age requirements to participate?

Volunteers of all ages are welcome. Volunteers under the age of 18 are required to have a waiver signed by an adult. If an adult is not coming with you, please have a parent or guardian sign the form in advance and bring it with you. You can download a waiver on our website.

How can I contact the organizer with any questions?

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No, you do not have to bring your ticket.  The ticket simply helps us plan supplies for each location.

Where should I park?

Parking varies by location. Please check each site for specifics.

Can I sign up a group?

Yes! Creeks to Coast Cleanup is a great volunteer opportunity for groups. We kindly ask that you make sure to pre-register your group so we can plan for enough cleanup supplies. We may put you in contact with the Cleanup Site Captain for coordination.

What should I bring?

Cleanup supplies will be provided. However, ECOSLO is encouraging volunteers to BYO – Bring Your Own reusable gloves, bags or buckets, and reusable water bottles & low-waste to reduce waste to help decrease the plastic footprint of the cleanup.

What should I wear?

Wear closed toed shoes – for creek and park cleanup locations you may want to consider boots and ones that are waterproof.  Dress in comfortable clothing and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.  It’s a good idea to dress in or bring layers!

We also encourage you to bring a reusable water bottle, wear sunscreen, and other sun protection like hats or sunglasses.

Can I receive community service hours?

Of course! It is required that you bring your forms and have your Cleanup Site Captain sign them after the cleanup so you can get your community service hours.  ECOSLO and our partner organizations DO NOT provide community service forms.

Is registration required?

Registration is not required, but highly recommended.

Can I be a Cleanup Site Captain?

Creeks to Coast Cleanup is possible because of our dedicated site captains.
