The San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden and The American Public Gardens Association Announce the Debut of GO PUBLIC GARDENS DAYS – MAY 7-16, 2021
The San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden and The American Public Gardens Association announce the debut of Go Public Gardens Days, an international celebration of public gardens, May 7-16, 2021. Go Public Gardens Days is the annual Spring observance of the American Public Gardens Association’s ongoing Go Public Gardens campaign to drive attention and attendance to botanical gardens and arboreta across North America and the world.
Many of the Association’s 600+ members in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Canada, and around the world join in this celebration with public events and special offers during the week. Hundreds have submitted details about their participation to gopublicgardensdays.org (also gpgd.info). The San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden is offering a Mother’s Day Barbecue and Concert May 9th, as well as Art in the Garden Show and Sale Fundraiser now through May 16 to celebrate Go Public Gardens Day. Visit slobg.org for event information and tickets.
The public can locate gardens in their area at gopublicgardensdays.org or gpgd.info and filter by the types of events being offered by gardens in their area.
VIRTUAL GARDEN PROFILES
While Go Public Gardens Days is designed to encourage people to visit their local public gardens, the Association and Norfolk Botanical Gardens have developed Virtual Garden Profiles. Presented by representatives of two dozen gardens across the country, these Virtual Profiles will give the public a chance to learn about gardens they can visit once travel is more prevalent in the wake of the pandemic. Garden Profiles will be every weeknight during Go Public Gardens Days (May 7-16) and Saturday, May 15 starting at 6PM Eastern. These presentations are free and will be available for viewing after the live presentation.
A full list of these garden profiles can be found at gopublicgardensdays.org or gpgd.info.
PLANT SNAP/GROW PUBLIC GARDENS APP UPGRADE OFFER
During Go Public Gardens Days, the plant identification app PlantSnap is offering a free upgrade to their Pro version with a donation of $25 or more to a public garden or the Association via the Association’s online donation portal here: http://bit.ly/GrowPG21
