A dynamic and informative 90-minute breakfast program specifically geared to San Luis Obispo business people. Held on the fourth Thursday of each month, local experts focus on a wide variety of community and business topics. Deadline to register is 5:00 p.m. August 21.

Topics include:

JUMP-START YOUR LEAD GENERATION | ROUNDTABLE

The tricky thing about generating leads? It can seem like you are out of ideas at the time you most need new avenues. We’ll harness the power of the group and put our heads together in a brainstorming session led by entrepreneur and business consultant Kristin Mehiel. You’ll walk away with dozens of ideas for boosting your business, new avenues to explore, and tips to try.

REAPING WHAT THEY SOW | FARM LABOR IN SLO COUNTY

SLO County produces almost a billion dollars worth of crops each year, from avocados and broccoli to strawberries and wine grapes. Who’s planting and picking all that produce? We asked Ryan Talley, manager and co-owner of Talley Farms in Arroyo Grande, to shed some light on the county’s farm labor workforce and the labor challenges facing farms of all sizes.

SNAKES ON THE BRAIN

Emily Taylor has chased rattlesnakes around the Sonoran Desert, stalked lizards from the Central Coast to Costa Rica and gotten up close and personal with all manner of reptilian creatures. Head of Cal Poly’s reptile research lab, Taylor will share tales from the field and bust some myths about our slithery neighbors.

FROM GANG TO MUSTANG

For Jeffrey Aparicio, the path to Cal Poly and aerospace engineering was not a straight and narrow one. There were stops in gangs, juvenile hall, even jail, all leading him toward a dead end. We asked Aparicio to share the resilient story of how he changed course, bucked expectations and set off on a promising future.

NOT YOUR MAMA’S FOOD STAMPS

CalFresh isn’t a grocery store (that would be California Fresh), it’s the state program that helps those struggling to feed themselves and their families. Far from the food stamps of days past, CalFresh works with farmers markets, promotes healthy eating and even benefits the local economy. County program manager Kat Lauterback will explain how the program has evolved and the ways it serves our county.

TOGA! TOGA! A QUICK ROMP THROUGH ROME WITH SLO REP

The San Luis Obispo Repertory Theatre is kicking off its second season as a fully professional, nonprofit theater group with a musical romp through Rome featuring desperate lovers, scheming neighbors and secrets behind every toga, all set to the music of Stephen Sondheim. SLORep will give us a preview of the Tony Award-winning musical “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.”
