(Ground)breaking News for the DANA Cultural Center

Don’t miss this (ground)breaking news – on Wednesday, August 24, at 11 am, Supervisor Lynn Compton, Senator Bill Monning and Assemblyman Katcho Achadjian will gather with donors, board members, volunteers and community members for a grand groundbreaking ceremony at the DANA Cultural Center. The public is invited to attend.

The project is the site of the future DANA Cultural Center/Nature Education Center which will include a museum as well as an outdoor classroom, trails, interpretive spaces, a barn, a teaching kitchen and picnic areas. In partnership with the California Conservation Corps, the SLO Land Conservancy and California Native Plant Society, land restoration as well as demonstration gardens will showcase drought tolerant landscapes. The Stories of the Rancho project, funded in part by California proposition 84 awarded in 2010, is finally moving forward to the construction phase of the development surrounding the historic Dana Adobe on 130 acres in Nipomo. The expanded infrastructure on the site will be dedicated to serving the needs of the Central Coast community, eco-tourism, heritage tourism, and the growing demand of elementary through postsecondary institutions for educational support programs and learn-by-doing opportunities. The development project’s major elements are scheduled to be completed soon after the new year in 2017.

Those who attend will celebrate and reflect on the number of years leading up to the construction phase of the much anticipated project.
