Your community newspaper brought to life.
Good Morning SLO is our platform for sharing ideas, news and inspiration. A monthly program that brings community leaders, business owners, nonprofit executives and staffers together, and enables us to reconnect, engage and learn from each other.
Our goal is to provide insight into business, community and legislative issues and share the stories of those making a difference. We want audience members to leave with ideas and information about how to better their personal and professional lives.
Good Morning SLO happens on the fourth Thursday of every month except November when it is on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.
FEATURING
A CALL FOR SERVICE
SLO County has an incredible number of nonprofits providing crucial services ranging from helping those in need to bolstering the arts, but our community has a shortage of people willing to sit on their Boards. Michael Simkins, Executive Director at Spokes for Nonprofits, will join us to share the importance of participating in these Board leadership roles.
A NEW YEAR
As the SLO Chamber looks ahead to 2025, June McIvor is at the helm of the organization as this year’s Board Chair. June will join us onstage share about the work she does at Even Keel Wind by Invenergy, which way the winds are blowing for our future and her goals for the Chamber this year.
OLD TRACTOR, NEW TRICKS
JB Dewar’s Tractor Restoration Education Program is an incredible reflection of the Central Coast, teaching ingenuity and communication while honoring our agriculture industry roots. Samantha Williams placed locally and nationally with her restored tractor in 2024, and will join us onstage to share how her experience in the program impacted her life.
OUR NEIGHBORS TO THE NORTH
Sections of Highway 1 have been closed for more than two years as the Caltrans crews work to recover the integrity of the road after several landslides, and the businesses in Northern SLO County that rely on tourism are struggling. Molly Cano, Vice President of Marketing at Visit SLO CAL, will dive into what’s going on up there and how we can support business during the closures.
SHOWERING THE COMMUNITY
Shower the People is a community-based mobile shower program that offers showers to unhoused people in SLO County. CJ Monza, longtime Shower the People volunteer, will join us onstage to tell us more about the amazing work being done to give people with the greatest need the opportunity to clean themselves with privacy and dignity on a regular basis.
LION DANCERS
We will round out the morning with an exciting performance in the courtyard. The Cal Poly Lion Dance Team will join us to celebrate Lunar New Year and show off their traditional costumes and moves.
