Jazz Vespers Concerts returns to the historic sanctuary at SLO First Presbyterian Church Sunday, April 14 at 4:00pm welcoming award-winning “Voce”, the premier vocal jazz ensemble at Cuesta College. Voce performs regularly and tours extensively, including several European trips. Voce is under the direction of John Knutson. Concert begins at 4:00 with a reception to follow. Voce is Cuesta College’s premier vocal jazz ensemble. Since its inception in 1981, the ensemble has toured extensively on the West Coast and in Europe eleven times, including appearances at the Montreux and North Sea Jazz Festivals. Voce has received numerous awards including an Outstanding Performance Award from Downbeat Magazine, a First Place Award at the 1997 Reno Jazz Festival, and Second Place at the 2003 Reno Jazz Festival. Voce has had the honor of being a featured perfomer at the International Association of Jazz Educators Conference in 1998 and 2003 and at the National Convention of the American Choral Directors Association in 2005. The group has recorded five CD’s and is led by John Knutson, the Director of Choral Studies at Cuesta College.
