In an effort to share Cuesta College faculty expertise with fellow instructors, staff and the community, the college will hold a Faculty Lecture Series on October 11 about the Hollister Adobe, which is located on the San Luis Obispo Campus. Emeritus History Instructor Dennis Judd will host the lecture, taking place from 4:00 p.m. – 4:50 p.m. in room 6305.
Constructed in the 1830’s as a family home, the Hollister Adobe stands today in the southeast corner of the college campus. Originally owned by a soldier of the California Mission system, the three-roomed adobe was later owned by the Hollister Family from 1866-1907. Cuesta College inherited the adobe in 1963. Although restoration took place in 1970, damage caused by the December 2003 San Simeon Earthquake resulted in the closure of the adobe. Fundraising efforts are currently underway to fully restore the structure.
Emeritus Instructor Dennis Judd taught United States history and California history at Cuesta College from 1988 until his retirement in 2015. Judd also wrote the curriculum for and taught History 260, An Introduction to Public and Environmental History within the San Simeon Region.
