Moderated by Dr. Hala Baki (Cal Poly)

Join us for a free screening of this groundbreaking documentary that examines Hollywood’s long history of Arab stereotyping. From bellydancers to bombers, these degrading images have persisted over time and have helped normalize anti-Arab prejudice. Reel Bad Arabs sheds light on the origin, development, and significance of these dangerous Hollywood tropes. This timely documentary calls on audiences to think critically about the social, political, and human consequences of stereotyping. The screening will be followed by a community discussion moderated by Hala Baki, Lecturer in Theatre and Dance at Cal Poly SLO.
