The fully paved, closed course Half Marathon is a point-to-point race starting at San Luis Obispo High School and finishing at the Madonna Inn with an out and back turn-around. The Half follows the Marathon route 45 minutes later. Runners take a quick loop around the historic downtown, past the Fremont Theatre, Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa, a Frank Lloyd Wright designed building, the Chinese Garden and out into the beautiful Edna Valley vineyards and farmland (yes there are a few hills).
On the way back into town, athletes experience the Railroad District and bridge, Islay’s Streets charming bungalows and Victorians and, finally, a scenic downhill finish line at the Madonna Inn where the SLO Life Expo will be in full swing! Expect ideal running weather with coastal fog and an average starting temperature of 54 degrees. High temperatures usually hover between 66-69 degrees.
