SLO Railroad Museum’s Special Presentation on Cuesta Grade

On Saturday, September 13 at 11:00, the Museum’s newsletter editor and former Cal Poly lecturer Glen Matteson will give a presentation on the line connecting San Luis Obispo and Santa Margarita. In the mid-1890s this was a major engineering accomplishment and a key step in connecting the Central Coast with the rest of the country.

Learn about Stenner Canyon trestle and the tunnels. What event closed the line? Were other routes considered?

The presentation is included with Museum admission.

A few days after the presentation Glen will be a rolling docent for an Amtrak train trip over the grade to Paso Robles. That trip, arranged by the San Luis Obispo Senior Center, is fully booked. To see if future trips will be arranged, contact the city’s senior center at (805) 781-7306.
