Whether it’s recruiting new board members or making sure everyone has the knowledge and skills they need to serve effectively, building your board is a critical and never-ending task. This workshop is for Executive Directors, Board Presidents/Chairs, or Board members who want to help build the strongest nonprofit board possible for their organizations. Come get help to find the type of board members you need to best serve your nonprofit. Understand how to provide support and training for new members, how to continue supporting board members, what jobs board members should do, how various board committees function and much more.
Topics covered in this workshop include:
– Recruit board members: Identify the type of board members you really need, where to find them, understand board expectations, the interview and vetting process.
– Orientation: How to bring new board members on, buddy systems, board handbook and key documents, team building.
– Board Education: Board self-assessments, education topics to include during regular meetings, board retreats.
– Leadership succession planning: Written job descriptions for officers and executive committee, pros and cons of having a president-elect position, terms of office.
– Role of the Governance Committee: Keeping the board in compliance, working with the organization leadership.
