Have you ever had an idea and no way to build on it? Maybe you have good ideas all the time, but you don’t have all the skills you need to make it anything but an idea. Don’t let the first step be the one that stops you from starting your own business — take the step, and then hit the ground running at Startup Weekend! The 54-hour event is basically all the best parts of starting a company crammed into one weekend, but with prizes and free food. If you want to build a team, test an idea, or just hang with Cal Poly’s most ambitious students, Startup Weekend is the event for you.
The weekend in a nutshell: On day one, anyone with an idea gets up and pitches for 30 seconds. The best ideas are then voted into the team-building phase, which involves everyone either pitching their ideas or themselves. After everyone has a team to rally with, the startups go to work making a business model, MVP (minimum viable product), and a pitch. When time runs out, all the startups battle for the judges’ votes in a final round of pitching. If you do well, you could win cash, admittance into the Hatchery, and more. If you do really well, you can start an actual company!
