SLO Adds New Dimension to October 13 National Solar Tour

Local Homeowners to Showcase a Broad Array of Clean Energy Solutions

San Luis Obispo, CA, September 28, 2018 – In October, San Luis Obispo will join scores of communities across the nation by participating in the 23rd Annual National Solar Tour, the largest grassroots solar event in the United States.

San Luis Obispo is taking the Solar Tour concept to a new level.  On Saturday, October 13, the SLO Solar & Heat Pump Home Tour will showcase an array of clean energy solutions, including rooftop solar, heat pumps, electric vehicles and efficiency measures.  These are approaches that can not only help homeowners cut their energy bills, but also help the city meet its ambitious goal of carbon neutrality by 2035.

The free event will kickoff from 11:30am to 1pm at the Ludwick Community Center, 864 Santa Rosa St., San Luis Obispo, with presentations on clean energy technologies from experts.  Each attendee will then receive a map of the San Luis Obispo homes participating in the tour and learn which technologies will be showcased at which homes.  From 1:00 – 5:00pm, attendees can visit the homes to find out more about clean energy solutions and talk with homeowners about their real-world experiences.

According to Eric Veium, Chair of the SLO Climate Coalition, local energy solutions will play important roles in achieving the city’s goal to reach carbon neutrality by 2035.  “To achieve carbon neutrality, we are working to decarbonize electricity and then electrify everything.  Homeowners and landlords, in particular, should be aware of the options available for their homes and rentals to save money and cut carbon. Landlords can put solar on their rentals and then become the utility.  Everyone wins!”

For more information and to register for the free Solar & Heat Pump Home Tour on Saturday, October 13 go to www.sunwork.org/events.  SunWork Renewable Energy Projects, a nonprofit dedicated to expanding the use of solar and other clean renewable energy technologies, is sponsoring the tour.
