Since forming the Svyati Duo in 2009 under the patronage of Sir John Tavener, cellist Rebecca Hepplewhite and organist Julian Collings have gained international critical acclaim for their worldwide concert performances and stellar recordings.
Experience this collaboration with the magnificent Forbes Pipe Organ as an anchor on Sunday, October 28, 2018, when Cal Poly Arts presents the SVYATI DUO in a sweeping afternoon concert beginning at 3:00 p.m., featuring an eclectic program that includes “Kol Nidrei” by Max Bruch and works by J.S. Bach, Joseph Rheinberger and Astor Piazzolla.
“Excellent in all the many styles they portray, from gentle lyricism to kooky sound effects.” – American Record Guide
“The performances are exemplary.” – Fanfare Magazine
The duo maintains a diverse and exciting repertoire, from Baroque sonatas through to romantic and contemporary works, and they are committed to performing music that displays the beauty and diversity of their unique instrumental combination. Through their expansive search for repertoire, they have discovered many unjustly neglected masterpieces; they are also passionately committed to contemporary music and have commissioned many new works from leading composers.
Student and adult tickets for the performance are $28.80 and $36 respectively and may be purchased in advance at the Cal Poly Ticket Office, Monday – Saturday, noon to 6 p.m., located on Grand Avenue on the Cal Poly campus; by phone at 805/756-4849; online at www.calpolyarts.org.
