Civic Ballet of SLO: Scarlet Ibis with Rodeo
An American classic, James Hurst’s coming-of-age story The Scarlet Ibis arrives on stage as a new contemporary ballet created by Civic Ballet artistic director Drew Silvaggio. A story that explores themes of family, acceptance, pridefulness, and fragility, The Scarlet Ibis is a profound meditation on survival in a world where one just might not belong. Performed alongside The Scarlet Ibis is Silvaggio’s powerful Rodeo (Civic Ballet, 2017), a crowd-pleasing update of the Agnes de Mille classic. Featuring energetic original choreography, a contemporary popular score, and a poignant, timely message about strength, femininity and vulnerability, Rodeo has become a favorite within the Civic Ballet repertoire.
