After graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in media arts from the University of Arizona in 1995, Joel began his career in the Los Angeles entertainment industry working with companies such as MTV, Miramax and Crusader Entertainment. Nearly a decade into his career and in-between film productions, Joel would escape to the Central Coast to assist wineries during their harvest months. After a couple years, he made the move permanent and served as director of communications for Hope Family Wines and then as marketing specialist with Solterra Strategies. In 2019, Joel became executive director of the Paso Wine Alliance.
A highly engaged community member, Joel has served five years on the City of Paso Robles Planning Commission, eight years on the Paso Robles joint Unified School District, and remains active with the Annual Paderewski Festival and Plymouth Congregational Church.
