The San Luis Obispo City Firefighter Association held its 6th annual Firefighters Ball Saturday, February 16, 2013 at the Embassy Suites. The event was deemed “extremely successful” with over 200 attendees and proceeds of over $36,000 going to the John W. Callahan Heart Safe Project.
The goal of the John W. Callahan Heart Safe Project is to place 100 Automated External Defibrillators in San Luis Obispo County by the year’s end.
The funds received from the February 16th event will fund the purchase and placement of another 22 AEDs. Previous efforts have resulted in placement of 4 AEDs, with 16 more on order from an earlier grant. Currently, there is a waiting list for these AEDs.
“San Luis Obispo City Firefighters Local 3523 looks for local charities to be the recipients of the proceeds from the firefighters ball,” explained Jody Larson, San Luis Obispo City Fire Captain Paramedic and member of Local 3523. “When Lynne Callahan approached us about the John W. Callahan Heart Safe Project, we were very honored and proud to support a cause which greatly benefits our community while at the same time, carries on the legacy of our beloved late Fire Chief.”
The mission of the John W Callahan Heart Safe Project is to establish awareness, education and immediate access to AEDs throughout our community, so that San Luis Obispo is a Heart Safe County and City.
